Michael Frankhauser

Michael joined our team in 2017 as our Arborist Division Manager. The inventor of the popular and innovative HAAS® Ascent System, Michael brings a wealth of experience and savvy new product development skills to his position. As an ISA Certified Arborist®, he offers a fresh perspective with a passion for using his real world tree care and climbing experience to bridge the gap between manufacturing and end use. His strength is in his ability to take an idea and transform it into a product that meets the demands of working arborists.

Job title
Arborist Division Manager

Family
A loving wife and four children

What inspired you to develop the HAAS® Ascent System?
I hurt. I hurt all over. I was doing production work, working a lot of hours, and when I would get home from work and my kids attacked me wanting to play, I hurt. As a Dad, being attacked by your kids when you get home is like the best thing ever. I had worked in a splice shop and the idea for the system came up to make climbing easier on the body. At that point, however, it was not efficient enough to justify itself and was not used like I knew it could be with some additional tweaks and product development. I set out on a mission to make it effective enough to be feasible.

What is your favorite thing about the arborist industry?
Hands down, it’s the people. The industry as a whole is filled with loving, caring and respectful people who truly want to see each other be safe and successful.

Education and training
I am an ISA Certified Arborist® and still perform tree care on a regular basis. I am an arborist at heart and always will be.

Share an interesting fact about yourself that people may not know
I love archery and was actually competitive at one point. I haven’t had time to do much with it in years, but I still love it. Same thing goes for Jeeping. I used to own a Jeep® Wrangler TJ that was built up for rock crawling and did that on weekends. Maybe when my kids are all grown up and I don’t have them to play with anymore, I’ll resort back to archery and Jeeping!

What do you like most about developing new products?
I enjoy the challenge and knowing, or at the very least hoping, that what I’m doing will make a difference in peoples’ lives. We are a passionate group that for a large part performs a thankless task at the cost of our own bodies. Helping to mitigate that damage is what drives me.

What is your favorite Weaver Arborist product?
I’m a bit biased, but I’d have to say the HAAS® Velox Ascent System!

What’s the best thing about Weaver Arborist?
It’s the people. I know I said this before about the industry as a whole, but I like working with people who have value and ethics and the Weaver team fits the bill. At Weaver Arborist, I am blessed to have both an amazing job and great people to work with.

Who has been your main influence in the arborist industry?
I have many, but the first person would be Brian Lang. A good friend, Brian is the owner of Outdoor Inspirations in Holland, Ohio. After that, I met Kevin Bingham, the owner of Singing Tree LLC and inventor of the Singing Tree Rope Wrench. From that point on, my list is huge.
